KAT celebrates new LEED-certified transit station

Knoxville Area Transit's new LEED-certified Knoxville Station Transit Center is over 90% complete and KAT plans to celebrate the upcoming grand opening with several public events.

On Friday, August 6, from 5-8 p.m. KAT will host a First Friday open house at the center, 301 Church Avenue.  The architecture and environmental features of the facility will be discussed by the project's lead architect. The Grand Opening Art Exhibition, a juried exhibition featuring a variety of artists, will also be available.

---For those looking to meet up with other green-minded individuals, local green-interest group Green Drinks Knoxville plans to hold its meeting in conjunction with the event, beginning at 6 p.m.

The station will officially open with a ribbon cutting ceremony August 13. The event will include several speakers and a tour of the facility. 

An open house for passengers and community members will be held Saturday, August 14, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tour the facility, pick up new bus schedules and plan trips with assistance from transit agents.
